Building Code Resource Library – WebNola Portfolio Case Study
BuildingCodeResourceLibrary.com Case Study
Site Information
The Building Code Resource Library is a website which features many different types of fire codes for the steel building industry. It has a nice simple design, and a content management system which allows the client to update the site without having to pay us.
Challenges & Solutions
In this project, the largest challenge WebNola faced was the setup of the content management system because the client was unable to use the standard WordPress WYSIWYG editor reliably to space out the content. The problem in question is the fact that WordPress automatically puts <p> tags when you hit “enter” in the text editor.
To remedy this issue, I used the TinyMCE Advanced plugin which allowed me to remove all of the confusing options from the editor to help prevent the client from clicking things he didn’t need to click. The best part about this plugin was the “show blocks” feature which allows you to set each paragraph as a block to prevent any of WordPress’ goofy code insertions. It’s visual, meaning you see a rectangular border around each block, which is very helpful. I imagine clients not being able to use WordPress’ WYSIWYG editor pretty common, but with this method it will ease their transition into the CMS quite nicely.
Overview and Conclusion
After addressing the client’s concerns about text entry, the website became a natural tool for updating easily. The client had never seen the backend of a website before, but in just a few weeks he was updating the site like a seasoned veteran! Here’s what Richard had to say about his experience with WebNola:
I couldn’t be more pleased with how the website turned out. The artwork and colors used in the site were perfect and I’ve gotten many compliments on the site. WebNOLA put in a lot of hard work on site. I’m very pleased with WebNOLA’s work. Lots of compliments on the site already. I would certainly hire WebNOLA again.”
Thanks, Richard. We really appreciate it!
