Company Information
The Crescent City Institutional Review Board is a pharmaceuticals testing safety organization based out of New Orleans, Louisiana. The CCIRB contacted WebNola in late 2007 about the creation of a highly functional website. I met with the CCIRB and proceeded to learn a lot about how IRB’s work, and the many challenges I would face as a developer with this project. Along with a professional-yet-attractive design, the CCIRB wanted content management (the ability to edit their own pages), advanced webforms, a streamlined process for the end user’s downloading/uploading of specific documents, all while both matching government-issued IRB specifications and being as secure as possible.
Challenges & Solutions
One of the main challenges I faced with this project was streamlining the process of downloading, filling out, then uploading the completed forms (this process would be done by the end user). In the interest of site security, I cannot detail the exact process of how this happens on the site. What I can say is that it took a lot of trial and error, and involved a “guest appearance” by a popular Microsoft Office application to make the process work seamlessly.
Overview and Conclusion
CCIRB.com is currently in a developmental launch phase, which means there are some minor and not-so-minor tweaks being made in the backend of the site. So far, this project has been an amazing learning experience for myself, simply because of the nature of how a typical heavily-regulated IRB is run. The final launch phase is expected to be finished by Q3 2008.
